What is the pH of distilled water?
Pure distilled water typically has a neutral pH of around 7.0 when produced.
However, once exposed to air, distilled water quickly absorbs carbon dioxide (CO₂), forming carbonic acid. This slightly lowers the pH, typically to around 6.5, making distilled water very mildly acidic when tested after being stored or exposed to air.
Airtight containers minimise exposure to carbon dioxide and airborne contaminants, reducing acidity changes and microbial growth. We always recommend replacing the lid soon after use.
